Spring Term 2018 NEWSLETTER No. 1
Belated – Happy New Year!
Church and community
Our next whole school family service will be on 22nd February 9.10am at St Nicholas Church - all family and friends welcome. However before that, on 8th February, we have the year 4 & 5 Eucharist – letters inviting family members from those two classes will be sent out soon.
I hope that by now you will be at least aware that in summer term we will be having alterations made to our school buildings. (Draft plans are attached to the Parentmail version.) The driver behind this is to improve security for the children at our school by relocating the school office to the ground floor at the front entrance to the school. The main outwardly visible change will be the two story extension at the front of the school, with the wall pushing out as far as the pavement. This will inevitably result in a huge disruption to the smooth running of the school and of course to our immediate neighbours for a period of two months before the summer break. I am very grateful for the full support of the Chislehurst Society and the Trustees of the Chislehurst Commons in this matter.
While all this disruption is with us, we have chosen to use this ‘opportunity’ to make some other improvements to the functionality of the buildings to benefit the children’s learning. Essentially this involves creating a new classroom on the first floor and thus releasing a ground floor classroom to be used by all classes as a multi-purpose practical room for art, DT, IT and science etc.
The disruption caused by the building works will affect some classes more than others and I hope I can count on your support during, what could well be, a very testing time for us all!
N.B. building works are not expected to start before 25th May.
‘Raise the Roof’ Appeal
A fund raising team comprising of parents and members of our local community have already made a fantastic start to planning an exciting programme of events that we hope will enable us to raise the money we need to enable us to proceed with the additional alterations. A brochure of events and ways of how to become involved will be circulated in the near future.
The Year 3 & 4 Bromley Schools’ Cross Country Event is coming up soon on 10th March and I hope the children are busy preparing for a very exciting Saturday morning with races for each age group – letter coming out soon!
World Book Day
We will all be dressing up, yet again, for World Book Day on 1st March – more details coming out soon.
Our school choir will be performing at The Bromley Schools Festival of Music on Tuesday 20th February at 7.30 pm. Come along and support us! Tickets can be purchased via The Churchill Theatre website - https://churchilltheatre.co.uk/Online/ in person at the Churchill Theatre or by calling their box office on 020 3285 6000.
